"No. No. No. I don't need a camera. I want to enjoy the diving". But then I turned to the "dark side", became an outcast, I bought a disposable underwater camera. A bit mean really as I am a photographer by trade. But I never wanted it to be a "busmans holiday" thing, the thrill of going diving was enough. Then as my diving skills progressed, the task loading got easier , so the photography bit has become an integral part of my diving persona. For those that scuba dive, the intense sensations of discovery and personal fortitude are hard to share, so underwater photography gives a small glimse into a magical world. The site contains a mixture of underwater and surface images, memories of good times shared. So I hope you enjoy all you find and return now and then to pickup on whats new. And if you are going diving tomorrow ....... be safe ! |

"What makes a good photograph"? This question is always asked. To answer we open a can of worms and try to explain composition, lighting and all the intricacies of technique. For me one of the most important ingredients is emotion. The feeling the viewer gets when first seeing an image, the ability of an image to tell a story and to question the viewers thoughts. For my underwater photography I prefer a wideangle view and predominantly use film. This combination allows me to put subjects into their surroundings and combine colour and composition to create emotive images. Film gives a soft forgiving medium to record the image. My Great Grandfather, a early 1900's photographer once said " After all is said and done, the result is the 'thing', and if the desired result is obtained the means and methods employed matter but little". So film or digital it doesn't matter. Am I passionate about photography, damn right !! |

This Website has been something I intended to do when I started diving, but somehow the fun bits, like diving, got in the way. So now a few years on it's time to share those experiences. All the pages have been constructed from scratch so I have had to learn HTML programming as the site took shape, I have to confess it was more like fumbling through a crash course in Dreamweaver, than learning the programming language. At the same time I decided to host the Website on my own server, so any outages are my fault. Having never done this before, it presented more steep learning curves in server management. To which I thank my nephew Nathan, he's in IT, dont you know ! So if any of you diving types have any suggestions on how the site can be improved, both content wise and technically, your suggestions would be more than welcome. |
